Our way of giving thanks

As the season of thanks settles in, we at Wrangell Mountain Air find ourselves reflecting on the incredible privilege we have every day. We are deeply grateful for the work we get to do, flying through the untamed beauty of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. From the innumerable glaciers that glisten in the morning light to the alpenglow that colors the peaks at dusk, every moment spent in this wild place feels like a gift.

We are grateful for the laughter shared with friends, the unforgettable hikes through the wilderness, and the joy of exploring this vast landscape with our passengers—people who become part of the story of this incredible place. Every flight we take feels like an invitation to connect with something larger than ourselves, to share the wonders of Alaska with those who appreciate its beauty as much as we do.

Living and working in Wrangell-St. Elias, we’ve come to understand that this way of life—surrounded by glaciers, mountains, rivers, and wildlife—is something we must protect. It’s not just the landscape we treasure, but the lifestyle that comes with it: one of adventure, community, and a deep respect for the natural world. We are committed to preserving this unique way of life, not just for ourselves, but for those who will follow in our footsteps.

This Thanksgiving, we are excited to announce that we raised over $3,000 in 2024 to offset 263 metric tonnes of emissions, making our air operations carbon neutral! We have once again partnered with Cool Effect to do so, this time supporting their project that captures methane at the Manaus Landfill in Brazil. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, and by supporting projects like this one, we’re taking meaningful steps toward preserving the environment we love.

Our goal for 2025 is to ask our partnering travel agencies to join us in our efforts to make sure every flight flown with WMA is offset. These efforts reflect our commitment to not only preserving the pristine wilderness of Wrangell-St. Elias but also protecting wild places across the globe, as climate change is a global issue we must mitigate together. We are thankful for the opportunity to live and work in one of the most awe-inspiring places on earth, and we remain committed to doing our part to protect this incredible place, for the generations to come.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Wrangell Mountain Air. Here’s to more flights, more adventures, and more moments of gratitude.
